A poem I wrote somewhere around high school or college. In high school I wrote anonymously under the name Shadow. Leaving poems out to be found or publishing them in the school magazine. I thought I lost most of those but I did manage to find a couple after all. I couldn’t help but to make a couple changes now, though its mostly the same. At the end of these poems, I always had the little bit.
Shadow’s Song
I sing, songs to myself
I dream, of things unreal
I love, that which does not exist.
I am.
A singer
A dreamer
A lover
of fantasy gone long.
I am a singer, a dreamer a lover
of fantasies so wrong.
I am a shadow, a dancer in the night
I am the shadow, that does not live without the light.
Hear my song and dance with me, dream my dreams and love them through me.
I am.
A singer
A dreamer
A lover
OF what exists in my mind.
I am a singer a dreamer a lover
Of fantasy that is mine.
I sing, songs to myself, but I crave the sound of echo’s.
I Sing to the shadows that lie around, that comfort me, that enjoy my sound.
Am I lonely? With these shadows and shades?
Can I not sing? To both gentleman and maid?
No.
~A step ahead of the darkness, a step away from the light…
ever the Shadow, but never the…~

Unlike the Shadow poem above, and any others I may unearth and post, this poem isn't about me or written with me in mind. It was written for another person's character in a larp for a pretty good plot-line we put together for our opening weekend. A prince and noblewoman were apart of an arranged marriage, one he was thrilled with, having loved the woman from afar for a long time, she though, loved someone else. The man she loved died earlier that weekend and she believed it was the prince's doing so she arranged to have him killed to avenge her lover. She discovered to late that he had been innocent of the deed, but not before he recited the poem below.
Shadow's Dancer
Only the stars
May illuminate the grace
Of a shadows sinuous dancer
Undulating waves are the only music she needs
As thought forms movement
Graceful
Serene
Shadows play to her
Lapping waves sway to her
Her movement turning the stars
Love from the shadows with those stars as guides
I dance with a blade, but you, your heart
And are, to me far more deadly
In the dark
And darkness clings and none can blame,
To every curve, turn and sway
But the stars burn hot
With passionate flame
And frighten the darkness away.
But darkness
In its corner
Still yearns to see
Your form, dancing divine
Trying desperately to be at your side.
But with your beauty, your grace
your ephemeral face
Nothing stays pace
With a shadows
sinuous
dancer.
